Karma and the law of cause and effect.
The word Karma is derived from the ancient Sanskrit language and in eastern based religions is generally taken as that which causes the cycle of cause and effect.
Karma therefore can be viewed as the relationship between one event (cause) and another event (effect) which is the direct consequence of the first.
There are many variations on the concept of karma throughout various religious views but for the purpose of this article we are going to view it as the concept that either the positive or negative effects you have on the world around you will in time return to oneself as in “What goes around comes around”
The universal law of cause and effect may have consequences in this one lifetime but may also span across several life times. In other words you keep on coming back until you resolve any issues of karma. It is important though not take karma as the only cause of everything that happens because there can of course be many other reasons that life plays out in the way that it does, physical reasons, social reasons, environmental reasons etc.
In terms of past lives I consider karma to be the emotional baggage as well as deeds good or bad that our soul carries from one lifetime to the next within the psyche. To grow both on a physical and spiritual level we have to overcome any negative karma influences.
In the process of past life regression as a therapy it can enable one to address current problems with the relationship to past life issues (cause and effect) This can often help lead to a greater understanding of the current problem and self realisation that helps toward a final resolution of the karma influence that is being played out in this life time.
